Least Racist Countries

Introduction

Racism, a deeply ingrained belief system that perceives superiority or inferiority based on race, has played a significant role in shaping histories and civilizations worldwide. While it has influenced wars, societal structures, laws, and the rise and fall of nations, it has also profoundly affected the daily lives of millions, even billions, of individuals. Despite the efforts to eradicate these prejudiced ideologies, racism continues to echo in our modern societies.

An annual report, 'Racial Equality Rankings,' sheds light on various countries’ efforts to attenuate racial disparities. The ranking is determined by assessing peoples' receptivity towards having a neighbor of a different race, the more accepting the people, the higher the country ranks.

  • New Zealand emerges at the top of the list, indicating a perceived higher level of racial equality in the country, followed by Canada, Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway.
  • Interestingly, almost all top ten nations are Western countries, pointing towards their progressive approach to cultural diversity and inclusion.
  • Despite the United States' diverse racial makeup and ongoing efforts to promote racial harmony, it lags behind at the 73rd position - suggesting a persisting racial divide.
  • Asian countries such as Japan, Singapore, South Korea are present in the mid to low end of the ranking.
  • Countries like Qatar, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and other Middle Eastern countries are at the lower end of the spectrum, possibly reflecting rigid societal norms regarding racial differences in these areas.
